Ottawa Board of Trade U.S. Tariff Statement
“The U.S. administration’s irresponsible tariff decision will harm American and Canadian businesses and cities alike - for no just reason. This tax on businesses and consumers, will raise costs, disrupt supply chains, and prove to be detrimental to the economic growth agenda in Ottawa and across Canada. Local manufacturers, exporters, and small businesses will feel the pressure, with reduced competitiveness affecting jobs and investment in our region.
In response, Ottawa businesses and residents simply must come together to strengthen our local economy. Businesses should explore new markets, diversify supply chains, and join the Ottawa Board of Trade in advocating for policies that grow our economy, lower costs and increase productivity. Ottawa community members can contribute by choosing local products and services, keeping jobs and investment in our community.
Canada must act decisively to ensure a competitive business environment and protect our economic future. Strengthening internal trade, expanding global partnerships, and modernizing our tax and regulatory systems are critical. We urge all levels of government to work in radical collaboration, taking bold action to build confidence in our own economy and secure long-term prosperity for our businesses and workers.”
