Ottawa Board of Trade Congratulates Prime Minister-Designate Mark Carney

Statement from Sueling Ching, President and CEO of the Ottawa Board of Trade
On behalf of the Ottawa Board of Trade, I extend congratulations to Prime Minister-Designate Mark Carney on his leadership victory. As Canada faces both uncertainty and opportunity, we look forward to working with him to build a more competitive, resilient, and inclusive economy.
In alignment with the Ontario and Canadian Chambers of Commerce, we urge the new government to act decisively on immediate challenges, including addressing trade uncertainty, strengthening Canada’s economic security, and ensuring stability for businesses. This means responding firmly to tariff threats, advancing a swift renegotiation of CUSMA, and dismantling interprovincial trade barriers. Canada must replace complacency with competitiveness—supporting business investment, innovation, and productivity while strengthening supply chains and talent development.
Now is the time to get to work. Through collaboration across government and industry, we can create an environment where businesses thrive, entrepreneurs innovate, and Canada reaches its full potential. The Ottawa Board of Trade remains committed to working alongside all levels of leadership to foster growth, sustainability, and prosperity for all.
