Ottawa Board of Trade Calls for Peaceful End to Demonstrations in Downtown Ottawa

(Ottawa, February 1, 2022) – Today, Sueling Ching, President & CEO, Ottawa Board of Trade, released the following statement:

“The Ottawa Board of Trade is calling on the Government of Canada, the City of Ottawa and demonstrators occupying downtown Ottawa to immediately find a peaceful resolution; end the demonstrations and free the businesses, employees and residents who have been adversely impacted for the last four days.

"We honour the right for every Canadian’s views to be made known to their government. That has been accomplished. Now it is time for demonstrators to return home.

"The businesses of Ottawa have been eagerly waiting to reopen after several weeks of restricted capacity to generate revenue. The anxiety and uncertainty of the demonstrations have further delayed their ability to engage employees and serve customers. In particular, these downtown businesses have been disproportionately burdened during the last two years only to be further challenged by these demonstrations. Our community and governments need to immediately support these businesses and their neighbourhood as well as their employees and families.”
