Calling on All Municipal Candidates to #BuildUpOttawa
The Ottawa Board of Trade is urging residents and business leaders to elect municipal leaders committed to growth and leadership
Ottawa, ON – September 12, 2022 – Today, the Ottawa Board of Trade launched the #BuildUpOttawa initiative; a pro-growth agenda built around making our Nation’s Capital more affordable, inclusive, and sustainable.
Throughout the municipal election, the Ottawa Board of Trade will be encouraging residents and business leaders to challenge councilor and mayoral candidates on their key priorities to keep Ottawa growing.
“We believe in one Ottawa and we want to see candidates elected who are committed to city-wide leadership and support, no matter what ward they represent,” said Sueling Ching, President and CEO of the Ottawa Board of Trade. “There has been no better time than now for our municipal representatives to be bold and have a collaborative approach to drive community health and prosperity.”
The Ottawa Board of Trade surveyed their membership to determine what priorities business leaders in Ottawa saw for municipal candidates this election. The top 5 priorities included:
- Support innovative infrastructure such as light rail transit phase 3, Ottawa airport, and high impact projects
- Increase the accessibility and affordability of homes
- Commit to moderate and pre-set tax increases for four years
- Advocate for and support policies and programs that directly impact small business
- Advocate for and support the New Campus Development at the Ottawa Hospital
The Ottawa Board of Trade is hosting a candidate Meet & Greet on September 23, 2022, at the Shaw Centre. Tickets can be purchased on the Ottawa Board of Trade’s website. Details coming soon for a Mayoral Debate on October 12, 2022.
