Celebrating International Women’s Day

As we celebrate International Women's Day on March 8th, the Ottawa Board of Trade (OBOT) recognizes the remarkable contributions of women in our community, particularly through their entrepreneurial endeavours. 

 

International Women's Day is a time-honored tradition that traces its roots back to the early 20th century, a period marked by significant social and political movements advocating for gender equality and women's rights. Over the years, it has evolved into a global celebration of the accomplishments of women. 

 

At OBOT, we recognize the vital role that women-owned businesses play in driving economic growth and fostering innovation. From boutique shops to innovative startups, the women-owned businesses in our communities not only contribute to the economic prosperity of our city but also embody the spirit of resilience and determination. 

 

In 2021, in partnership with Invest Ottawa, Ottawa Tourism, Ottawa Coalition of Business Improvement Areas, and the City of Ottawa, OBOT launched our #BuyLocalOttawa campaign. This initiative encouraged consumers to put their money where their heart is and make empowered choices that support our local economy. As part of this campaign, we created a directory of locally owned businesses, including a category recognizing the vibrant network of women-owned businesses right here in Ottawa.
